Challenge
Westminster International University in Tashkent (WIUT) is the first international university in Uzbekistan, awarding British degrees. The website had to serve several audiences at once: applicants and their parents, current students, alumni, partners and prospective staff. It had to hold programmes at every level, admissions, international cooperation, research, student life, news and vacancies — and still stay clear and recognisable.
Solution
We built the site on Joomla with a page builder and styled it in the university’s own blue and light-blue palette, with a red accent on the apply button. The home page is organised as a path from getting to know the university to getting in touch:
- First screen — a slider with a large headline, video and banners: the university’s anniversary, the WIUT Insider student hub, the Telegram channel and a welcome message
- Header and navigation — a top bar with social links, phone, search, student links, webmail and an “Apply now” button; a main menu with drop-down sections; and a full-screen menu behind the hamburger icon
- WIUT × MARU collaboration — a dedicated anniversary block with logos and a link to the details
- About the university — a short story, a video, a prospectus link and counters with key figures
- Programmes — six cards: pre-foundation, foundation, undergraduate, postgraduate, PhD and DSc, and executive courses
- Rector’s message — a portrait and a welcome note
- Why students choose WIUT — four advantages with icons and a collage of student-life photos
- News — a carousel of the latest stories and a list of recent posts
- University centres — cards for specialised centres linking to their own sites
- Student and alumni stories — a slider with portraits and links to the full stories
- Partners — a scrolling strip of partner organisation logos
- Enquiry form and contacts — a form with country and programme selection and reCAPTCHA protection, plus address, phones, email, working hours and a map
The site is available in English, Uzbek and Russian. A separate accessibility panel lets visitors enlarge text and spacing, invert colours, switch to grey hues, underline links, use a big cursor and a reading guide, and have text read aloud.
